The Philippines has fielded a team, lead by Kira Ellis, to compete in the Mixed Relay event of the 2025 Asia Triathlon Cup Gamagori in Japan.

The 2025 Asia Triathlon Cup in Gamagori, Japan starts from September 20-21 2025. The cup is a flagship continental series under Asia Triathlon, featuring races across multiple host cities each year and designed to give athletes opportunities to earn international ranking points while competing in world-class environments.
The 2025 calendar includes iconic venues such as Gamagori Ryokuchi Pier Park in Japan, which also doubles as a test event for the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, alongside other stops across Asia’s key triathlon hubs like China, South Korea, and Southeast Asia. These varied courses, from coastal swim loops to tight city-center bike circuits, highlight both the athletic intensity of the sport and the cultural character of each host nation.
The Philippine team consists of top triathletes in the country. Kira Ellis is joined by Katrina Salazar, Iñaki Lorbes, and Joshua Ramos. The team is also joined by coach Doray Ellis and Coach Ani de Leon-Brown.
The team will participate in the mixed relay. It will be held on September 21, 2025, at Gamagori Ryokuchi Pier Park. Each team has two men and two women, with every athlete completing a short race that includes a 300-meter swim in the bay, a 6.6-kilometer bike ride along the coast, and a 1.75-kilometer run before passing on to the next teammate. The short and fast format makes the race exciting, with positions changing quickly and often being decided by just seconds.
For the Philippines, it is both a chance to compete for medals and to show they can stand alongside Asia’s best in a test of teamwork, speed, and composure. The participation of the team in this competition can also be seen as preparation for the upcoming Southeast Asian Games in December. The young squad shows that the sport has outstanding potential in the country. With enough support, the growth of the triathlon scene in the Philippines can only grow stronger.
